AUDITIONS

Auditions for Our Town and Matilda the Musical will take place the week of November 15th, with the following schedule. All auditions and callbacks will be held in the auditorium.

AUDITION SCHEDULE NOTES

You do not need to attend the entirety of the Tuesday auditions (i.e. arrive at 5:00PM, leave at 9:00PM).

If you're auditioning for Our Town only, you only need to attend your specific 30-minute audition slot (which you can sign up for below).

If you're auditioning for Matilda the Musical only (or both shows), you need to attend both your specific 30-minute audition slot, and the 30 minutes prior, during which you will learn the dance audition for Matilda.

EXAMPLE

You signed up for the 6:30PM time-slot, planning to audition for both Our Town and Matilda the Musical.

  1. On Tuesday, November 16th you need to show up at 6:00PM.

  2. From 6:00PM-6:30PM, you will learn the dance audition for Matilda the Musical.

  3. At 6:30PM, you and the other members of your time-slot will perform the dance audition.

  4. From 6:35PM-7:00PM, you will be called in individually to perform your monologue and song.

Auditions are open to all Turpin students who wish to participate. If you want to audition, please follow the below instructions.

       AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Sign up for an audition time, using the Audition Sign-up (link below).

  2. Fill out the Required Forms (link below).

  3. Find & memorize 1 contemporary dramatic monologue (no longer than 2 minutes in length) from a play, musical, or movie/TV show (preferably from a play).

  4. If auditioning for Matilda the Musical, find & memorize 16-32 bars of a song from a contemporary comedic musical. You will perform both the monologue and song at your audition.

  5. Bring a theatre résumé and headshot with you on the day of auditions.

  6. If auditioning for Matilda the Musical, arrive 30 minutes prior to your audition-slot, so you can learn the choreography for the dance audition.

If you want to be considered for Our Town, you must be able to attend both Tuesday & Wednesday. If you want to be considered for Matilda the Musical, you must be able to attend both Tuesday & Thursday. If you want to be considered for both shows, you must be able to attend Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday.

The callback list for both shows with be posted here on Wednesday, November 17th at 10:00AM.

The cast list for both shows will be posted here on Saturday, November 20th at 10:00AM.

Stage Crew

Stage Crew Interviews will be held Wednesday, September 1st, starting at 5:00PM in the Auditorium Lobby.

       INTERVIEW INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Sign up for an Interview Time, using the Interview Sign-up.

  2. Fill out the Required Forms, two for Clue specifically, and two that must be completed each year.

How should I prepare for the audition?

You should find and memorize 1 contemporary comedic monologue. At the audition, you will perform this monologue for the directors.

What is a contemporary monologue?

A contemporary monologue is a monologue from a play/musical/movie/TV-show that was published after 1900.

Where can I find a monologue?

The following websites are good resources for finding monologues, but you can use a monologue from any play, musical, movie, or TV show that you can find (we prefer that you pick a play).

How long should my monologue be?

No longer than 2 minutes.

What is a theatre résumé?

Your résumé is a one-page list of your theatrical experience—stage roles, training, education—plus your basic info, like your name and contact information. Click here for more info on résumés.

What is a headshot?

A headshot is a printed photo of yourself (in color or black-and-white), that is at least 5"x7".

What should I wear to the audition?

Dress nicely, like you are going to a job interview.

When are callbacks?

Thursday, September 2nd @ 6:00PM.

If I'm invited to callbacks, what should I prepare?

At callbacks, sides will be provided to you from the script, and we will run these scenes. You do not need to bring or prepare anything.
