INTERVIEW GUIDE

Interviews can seem intimidating, but all in all, it is a straightforward process. Just come prepared with a résumé (if you have one), examples of any work you have done, and be ready to talk about yourself.

If this is your first interview, this guide will hopefully answer any questions you may have about the process. If you are an experienced interviewee, this guide may simply provide a few helpful links or tips. Reading this entire guide is in no way a requirement—feel free to bounce around and use anything that is helpful.

What happens at a Turpin Theatre stage crew interview?

  1. Before the interview date, you need to sign up for a specific time.

  2. When you fill out your interest form, please ensure that the crews you choose are ones you are willing to be on. You may not get your first choice due to the needs of the production.

  3. On the day of the interview, you need to arrive at the auditorium at least 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled interview time to check in with the staff.

  4. When it is your turn to interview, the staff member you checked in with will direct you to the appropriate staff mentor based on your form.

  5. You will go on stage and sit with the staff mentor.

  6. Introduce yourself to the mentor.

  7. You and the mentor will have a conversation, and you will answer some questions. The conversation will cover the program, any work history you have, and your skills and hobbies. The questions will be centered around what we do, your comfort level with leading your peers, and different situations we may experience.

What do I need to prepare for a Turpin Theatre stage crew interview?

Prepare a résumé detailing all the experiences you have had. Your résumé does not need to include only theatrical experiences.

What is a theatre résumé?

Your résumé is a one-page list of your theatrical experience—stage roles, training, education, etc.—along with your basic information, such as your name and contact information.

Please note that an interview is not a guarantee of being selected for the leadership position or crew you want to be a part of. Decisions are made by looking at the production as a whole and considering the needs of the production.

What are some interview tips?

  • Just breathe and relax!

  • Be honest. Don't stretch the truth about your experience. We can teach you what we need you to know.

  • Be yourself. Part of the interview is to see who you are as a person.

  • Come with questions for the mentor.

  • If you have a portfolio of work you have done, bring it! Show off how cool you are.

When will decisions be made?

Decisions will be made after all interviews have been conducted. No callbacks are done for interviews.

What if I still have questions?
